US 4,121,316 discloses a hand-held scraper for removing ice or frost from vehicle windows and windshields. The scraper comprises a substantially flat and flexible member with an edge that follows the surface from which ice or frost is to be removed. The back of the flexible member is provided with a sawtooth pattern for efficient removal of thicker layers of ice.
US 4,712,269 discloses an ice scraper with a deformable blade, which is attached to a handle structure via a rubber device. When a pressure is applied against the handle structure, the blade can thus be formed to follow the shape of a windscreen, which leads to an effective contact between the blade and the windscreen.
PROBLEMS RELATED TO PRIOR ART The known solutions have specific advantages when cleaning the outside of a windscreen. However, all solutions are problematic when plastering the inside of a windscreen, since the blade on the current scrapers is not adapted to follow the profile of the surface, which is usually concave due to the fact that the surface of the outside is convex. For aerodynamic reasons, the windscreen of a vehicle also has such an angle in the vertical direction that its inside faces more or less downwards. This in turn leads to the ice or frost that is scraped away from the inside inevitably falling on underlying structures, such as the dashboard and the components present there. When the ice crystals melt into water, this can cause internal damage and / or damage the surface layer of the components.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The object of the present invention is therefore to provide a solution which solves the above problems and thus enables an efficient and convenient removal of frost and / or ice from the inside of a windscreen.
According to the invention, the object is achieved by the scraper initially described, wherein the flexible blade is configured to be shaped to abut for abutment against a surface whose profile is concave.
The scraper also comprises a collecting means for receiving condensation, frost and / or ice removed from the surface. The collecting member is arranged with an inlet substantially parallel to the distal edge of the flexible blade. Furthermore, the flexible blade and the first and second sides of the grip part are arranged to constitute limiting surfaces of the collecting member. The grip part also suitably comprises a main side which is parallel to the flexible blade. This main side also constitutes a limiting surface of the collecting means. The inlet to the collecting means is surrounded by a U-shaped collar, which is arranged so that a belly part thereof adjoins said main side of the grip part and the opening of the inlet is widest at a central portion to the distal edge of the flexible blade. The length of the main side of the grip part exceeds the length of the flexible blade from the proximal to the distal side, and the flexible blade is attached to the grip part so that the inlet of the collecting member also has an opening side which is parallel to the flexible blade. This construction provides a very good collection of removed frost and ice.
The scraper is advantageous because it offers efficient access to the concave inside of a windscreen and prevents unwanted precipitation of ice crystals during use. The integration of the collecting member in the grip part is advantageous, since the construction thus becomes both compact and cost-effective to manufacture.
The U-shaped collar at the inlet to the collecting means is advantageous as it stabilizes the structure and allows an uncomplicated transport of removed frost and ice into the collecting means.
According to an embodiment of the invention, the inlet to the collecting means of the scraper has a width which is equal to the length of the distal edge of the flexible blade, i.e. the edge which abuts against the surface to be cleaned. This minimizes the risk that removed frost and ice ends up outside the collecting means and a good overall function is ensured. According to another embodiment of the invention, in addition to the proximal and distal side, the flexible blade has two mutually opposite sides which are attached to a first and a second side of the grip part in such a way that a compression of the first and the other side results in the flexible blade bulging out and the distal edge assuming a convex profile. This profile is thus well adapted to abut against a surface with a concave profile. Thus, a concave surface, such as the inside of a windshield, can be effectively cleaned via the distal edge of the flexible blade.
According to a further embodiment of the invention, the first and second sides of the grip part are arranged so that the grip part has a general hourglass shape. This facilitates the user's grip on the scraper at the same time as the collecting member can accommodate a relatively large amount of frost and ice.
According to a further embodiment of the invention, the distal edge of the flexible blade comprises an edge, which is configured to cut off condensation, frost and / or ice from the surface over which the distal edge of the blade is passed. This gives the scraper a good scraping function.
According to yet another embodiment of the invention, the scraper further comprises a relatively rigid blade, which is arranged along a secondary side of the grip part. The secondary side is suitably oriented substantially parallel to the distal edge of the flexible blade. By turning the scraper half a turn around the longitudinal axis, the relatively rigid blade of the scraper can thus be used for scraping the outside of a vehicle's windows.
Additional advantages, advantageous features and applications of the present invention will become apparent from the following description and the dependent claims.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS The present invention will now be explained in more detail by means of embodiments, which are described by way of example, and with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 shows a perspective view of the proposed scraper according to an embodiment of the invention, Figure 2a, b illustrates how a distal edge of a flexible blade of the scraper can be given a desired convex shape according to an embodiment of the invention, Figure 3 shows a side view of the proposed scraper according to an embodiment of the invention, Figure 4 shows a side perspective view of a scraper according to an embodiment of the invention, and Figure 5 shows through an example how the flexible blade of the scraper can be adapted to abutment against a surface with a concave profile.
DESCRIPTION OF EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION We first refer to Figure 1 which shows a perspective view of a proposed scraper 100 according to an embodiment of the invention. The scraper 100 is arranged to remove condensation, frost and / or ice from a surface, which in turn is assumed to have a concave profile, such as the inside of a windscreen on a motor vehicle.
The scraper 100 comprises a grip part 120 and a flexible blade 140. The grip part 120 is adapted to be gripped by a user's hand, and therefore advantageously has an hourglass shape. The outside of the grip part 120 can also be provided with relief and / or rubber inserts for increased friction against the user's hand. The flexible blade 140 is joined to the grip portion 120 along a proximal edge 140p and is configured to conform to the concave surface profile along a distal edge 140d.
Figures 2a and 2b illustrate how such a shape adjustment can be achieved according to an embodiment of the invention.
Figure 2a shows a perspective view of the scraper 100 seen from the front towards the proximal edge 140p. In this view, an inlet 165 of a collecting means 160 (see Figure 4) is seen in the scraper 100. The collecting means 160 is configured to receive the condensation, frost and / or ice which is removed from the surface by means of the scraper 100. 165 is therefore arranged substantially parallel to the distal edge 140d of the flexible blade 140 and advantageously has a width equal to the length of the distal edge 140d of the flexible blade 140.
The flexible blade 140 also includes two opposed sides. According to an embodiment of the invention, these sides are fixed in a first side 121 and a second side 122, respectively, of the grip part 120. Specifically, the sides of the flexible blade 140 are fastened in the grip part 120 in such a way that when the first and second side 121 respectively 122 the compressed flexible blade 140 is forced to bulge out and the distal edge 140d assumes a convex profile. This is illustrated in Figure 2b, where the dashed line indicates a neutral position of the distal edge 140d.
By applying different amounts of compression force F to the sides 121 and 122, the bulge of the flexible blade 140 can be controlled and thus the convex shape of the distal edge 140d can be adjusted, so that the distal edge 140d abuts against the concave profile of a given surface. This will be further illustrated below with reference to Figure 5. To improve the grip and give the user good control over the flexible blade 140, the first and second sides 121 and 122 of the grip portion 120 are arranged so that the grip portion 120 assumes a general hourglass shape. .
Figures 3 and 4 show a side view and a side perspective view, respectively, of the proposed scraper 100 according to an embodiment of the invention. As can be seen, here the limiting surfaces of the collecting means 160 are constituted by the flexible blade 140, the first side 121, the second side 122 and a main side of the grip part 120, which is arranged parallel to the flexible blade 140.
As shown in Figures 2a and 2b, the inlet 165 of the collection member 160 here is surrounded by a U-shaped collar 163, which is arranged so that a belly part thereof adjoins the main side of the grip part 120. The opening 165 of the inlet is widest at a central portion of the distal edge 140d of the flexible blade 140. This is advantageous because it stabilizes the structure and at the same time allows an uncomplicated transport of removed condensation, frost and ice into the collecting means 160.
It is preferred that the length of the main side of the grip portion 120 exceeds the length of the flexible blade 140 between the proximal side 140p and the distal side 140d and that the flexible blade 140 be attached to the grip portion 120 so that the inlet 165 of the collection member 160 has an opening side which is parallel to the flexible blade 140. This is favorable because it improves the uptake of removed condensation, frost and ice.
It is further advantageous if the scraper 100 comprises a relatively rigid blade 180, which is arranged along a secondary side of the grip part 120. The secondary side is in turn suitably oriented substantially parallel to the distal edge 140d of the flexible blade 140. The relatively rigid blade 180 is adapted to remove frost and ice from flat or convex surfaces, such as the exterior windows of a vehicle. By rotating the scraper 100 half a turn around its longitudinal axis A, a user can thus use the relatively rigid blade 180 to polish selected parts of the exterior of a vehicle.
Figure 5 shows by an example how the flexible blade 140 of the proposed scraper 100 can be adapted to abut against a surface with a concave profile 500. As described above with reference to Figure 2b, the distal edge 140d can be given an adapted convex shape by applying appropriate force F to the first and second sides 121 and 122, respectively, of the grip portion 120.
Accordingly, the distal edge 140d can be shaped to a certain concave profile 500 of the surface, such as the inside of a vehicle windshield. To ensure good operation of the scraper 100, the distal edge 140d of the flexible blade 140 suitably includes an edge configured to cut off condensation, frost and / or ice from a surface over which the distal edge 140d of the blade is passed. The embodiment of the inlet 165 to the collecting means 160 described above also ensures that substantially all removed condensation, frost and ice is introduced into the collecting means 160, provided that the scraper 100 is moved so that the inlet 165 has a direction of movement with a horizontal directional component and / or an upward directional component. .
The invention is not limited to the embodiments described with reference to the figures but can be varied freely within the scope of the appended claims.
